Post #2- reflections are first semester
As quarter 2 , and semester 1 have come to an end. I have taken time to reflect and go over everything I have learned so far. Throughout the first 5 months of taking AICE media studies, I can say I have worked on multiple video films and have done many assignments that have helped me gain a background understanding of all the steps people go threw to create a high quality film. I have seen myself improve in many areas, but still have so much more to learn as the year continues.
I first toke a look in my media studies journal that we started in the beginning of the year . This journal contains all the basics that we have taken in use throughout the year. For example my journal has notes, scripts, and storyboards. The first notes I toke were about different types of camera angles. We watched a video that introduced us to this huge factor where I learned how big of a factor camera angles hold in a film. This includes, low angle, over the shoulder angle, POV angle, pan angle, tilt angle, long shot, etc. As the semester went on these angles came in big use. Another assignment I did was taking notes on editing skills and techniques. Transitions is like the cherry on top. They add that extra spice to your film. I am not the best at editing, but I have learned new ways to add transitions and how different type of transitions work. These are just a few of the assignments I have done. As I keep adding to my journal, the better resources I have to use as the year goes on. It helpful to have a journal where I can take anywhere and look back to what I have learned so far and use in future uses.
I also looked back to all the films I have acted in, or taken part of. The improvement from the first film where me and my classmate acted out a small scene to my latest film where me and my group introduced gingerbread houses to our "audience" have definitely shown . My first film had a lack of camera angles, no effects, and seemed blend to my class. I wasn't prepared on how to create a film, but as I watch the latest film I have done I can see how I introduced more camera angles, added transitions, and made sure to hook in the audience. We have done many skits throughout the first semester , each with there own pros and cons but overall I have learned, and will continue to apply new techniques and improvement as the year goes. I hope to continue creating improved films, gaining more information of the media industry, and creating a better understanding of all the factors that help create a barrier to producing a film.
